Former Sakai Transportation Warehouse (Red Brick Warehouse)

This cocoon storage warehouse was constructed in 1919 by Sakai Transportation Warehouse KK. The two-story structure has walls of brick stacked in the British style. The Tobu Isesaki Line (opened in 1910) was used to transport cocoons, even, they say, to the Tomioka Silk Mill. This important modernization asset conveys to modern people the history of the Sakai district when silkworm eggs, sericulture, milling, textiles, and other aspects of the silk industry were thriving.
