To prevent the spread of infectious silkworm diseases, 13 inspection centers were established after 1887 in Gunma Prefecture, which was the leading prefecture for sericulture. Since the area around one of those centers, the Sakai Trading Floor, was the top producing region for silkworm eggs in Gunma Prefecture, it was rebuilt in 1927 with a unique and impressive reinforced concrete structure, and called the Silkworm Industry Control Center. It is the only building remaining to this day, and serves as a valuable historical asset. It communicates to people today the history of this area when the silkworm egg and sericulture industry was booming.
