The Kumagaya Factory was the last silk milling factory of Katakura Industries. The cocoon warehouse of the factory was turned into a memorial museum which was certified as a Heritage of Industrial Modernization site by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in 2007. To preserve the company's 121-year history in the silk milling business and pass it down to later generations, the museum exhibits the silk milling machinery used at the Kumagaya Factory when it was operating. By following the tour course, visitors can understand how things were then, stepping back in time and observing the manufacturing process from cocoon to raw silk.
