The Graves of Tomioka Silk Mill “Factory Girls” (Kaigen-ji Temple)

Among the “factory girls” who gathered from around the country during the time the mill was a government-run factory, there were some who despite their young age, became ill and died in Tomioka because of the difficulty in leaving home and being unable to adjust to the group labor situation. There are three graves at Kaigen-ji Temple of “factory girls” and also “factory boys” who died between 1873 and 1876.
